Our son Vince was born in 2011 with Arthrogryposis Multiplex Congenita (AMC) syndrome. This is a disease of the muscles, where they are so bound and underdeveloped that they only allow for limited movement, and in many cases cause bone deformities. When Vince was born, he couldn’t move any parts of his body, but thanks to a lot of physiotherapy, now he can move his head, hands, upper body and hips. He has been wearing a tracheostomy tube since birth, because the muscle weakness and chest deformity were so severe, he couldn’t breathe on his own.

Vince has been through two successful surgeries so far. In November 2015 his scoliosis was corrected by implanting a magnetic rod called Magec Rod, and in May 2016 his chest deformity was adjusted with two platinum disks. The surgeries were done in Hamburg at the Altona Children’s Hospital (AKK), because they had successfully treated many children before who were born with AMC.
